The most statuesque yet approachable icon in the Trotters family might well be our wonderful lion - Augustus.

He first came to life in 2015, when a Merchandising Assistant in Trotters HQ shared an oil painting that she had done of a magnificent male lion, with a resplendent, golden mane and a wise and welcoming gaze in his eyes.

Our Founder Sophie fell for him at once, and we set to work with our wonderful knitwear partners in Portugal to emulate the tones and his facial expression into a knitted pattern that would form a knitwear design, to accompany young Trotters’ customers on their adventures near and far.

A pride of lions …

In addition to knits, for an everyday and relaxed option, Augustus is applied in cobalt blue felt print onto a grey marl sweatshirt. Sleepovers and bedtime stories feel even better in our new cosy blue flannel check pajamas with an embroidered Augustus on the chest pocket.

Augustus has made some great friends

Babies and toddlers were brought into the world of Augustus through our adorable addition of the Augustus and Friends collection, where we have gathered a more simplified lion onto baby cardigans, sweaters and leggings, and into a stylized jungle family including elephants and giraffes. These add real character to embroidered collars on layering cotton tops, super-cute rompers and organic cotton Lapinou all-in-ones.
